What's On in Kensington: Late Summer & Autumn 2026

Summer's headline concerts are over. What remains, from the Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum on Cromwell Road, is the densest stretch of the Kensington calendar: Carnival next weekend, three weeks of Proms still to run, ticketed museum shows that last into winter, and Hyde Park Winter Wonderland from 19 November. This weekend: Notting Hill Carnival — 60th anniversary

Europe's biggest street festival marks 60 years since the first Carnival in 1966. The official schedule:

Saturday 29 August — UK National Panorama steel-band competition, ticketed
Sunday 30 August — Families and Children's Day, free (J'ouvert, children's parade)
Monday 31 August — Adults' Day / main parade, free

The parade footprint is in W11, not Kensington's W8. Cromwell Road and the hotel stay reachable; Notting Hill Gate, Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park have temporary entry/exit changes. High Street Kensington and Earl's Court are the quieter tube alternatives. If you are not going to Carnival, the South Kensington museums are noticeably less busy on the Bank Holiday Monday.

BBC Proms — last three weeks

The Hall is a ten-minute walk across Kensington Gardens. The Last Night is conducted by Sakari Oramo with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; soloists include pianist Yuja Wang (Barber Piano Concerto) and tenor Nicky Spence. Standing-room Promming tickets are still released on the day from around £8 at Door 11 — the remaining August and early-September concerts are the realistic window to do that without the Last Night scrum.

Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A South Kensington)

Schiaparelli: Fashion Becomes Art — until Sunday 8 November 2026. The UK's first exhibition devoted to Maison Schiaparelli: 200-plus objects, from Elsa Schiaparelli's collaborations with Dalí and Cocteau through to Daniel Roseberry's current couture. Timed tickets; weekday from £28 / weekend from £30.
Rising Voices: Contemporary Art from Asia, Australia and the Pacific — until Sunday 10 January 2027, Porter Gallery. A QAGOMA partnership. Advance tickets from £17.

Marie Antoinette Style closed on 22 March 2026 and is no longer on show.

Natural History Museum

Our Story with David Attenborough — must end August 2026. 360° cinematic experience in the Jerwood Gallery, ages 8+ (minimum 4). Adult off-peak from £20. This is the last week; book if it is still on your list.
Jurassic Oceans: Monsters of the Deep — 22 May 2026 – 3 January 2027. Pliosaur, ichthyosaur and mosasaur fossils in the Waterhouse Gallery. Adult off-peak from £15; museum entry included.
Visions of Nature — until October 2026.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 62 — 16 October 2026 – 11 July 2027. 100 new images. Adult off-peak from £17. The 61st edition has left South Kensington.

Science Museum

Future of Food — free, ticketed, until 1 September 2026. Final two weeks.
Space — the new free gallery of spacecraft and artefacts is now open. Family Space Shows run Saturdays and Sundays until 1 November 2026, plus selected school-holiday weekdays.
Wonderlab — ticketed interactive gallery for curious 7–14 year-olds.

Kensington Palace

15-minute walk through Kensington Gardens · Historic Royal Palaces

The Last Princesses of Punjab — until 8 November 2026. Sophia Duleep Singh and the women who shaped her; included in a standard palace ticket until that date.
Queen's State Apartments — closed until spring 2027 for re-presentation. The King's State Apartments, Jewel Room, Victoria rooms and Diana's Sunken Garden remain open.

Kensington Gardens closes at dusk. Hyde Park stays open until midnight. An evening walk back from the palace or the Serpentine has to use the streets, not the garden paths.

Serpentine Pavilion and the Design Museum

Serpentine Pavilion 2026 by LANZA atelier (a serpentine) — 6 June – 25 October 2026, free, in Kensington Gardens. Monday–Friday 10:00–18:00; Saturday–Sunday 10:00–19:00. Park Nights continue in the pavilion into October.

Carnival (29–31 August): if you are staying through the Bank Holiday, say so at check-in. If you are not attending, the museums are the quiet play.
Last Night of the Proms (12 September): seated tickets sell out; Promming is the on-the-day option.
Schiaparelli: timed entry. Weekends are the expensive slots.
Attenborough / Future of Food: both end in the next two weeks.
Winter Wonderland: book the entry slot first, then the room. Green Gate is the Kensington gate.
