Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 2026: Walking Time From Holiday Inn Kensington Forum

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland returns to the south-east corner of Hyde Park from Thursday 19 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, closed on Christmas Day. This guide is written from the Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum at 97 Cromwell Road, SW7 4DN — the Kensington hotel that sits on the walking line to Green Gate, the west entrance of the event. Dates, hours and ticket prices below are taken from the official Tickets Guide and Getting Here pages.

How far is Holiday Inn Kensington Forum from Winter Wonderland entrance?

The Holiday Inn London – Kensington Forum at 97 Cromwell Road, SW7 4DN is 1.6 miles (2.6 km) from Green Gate, the west entrance of Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and the closest of the four official gates from Kensington. The walk takes 30–35 minutes at a steady pace. The hotel’s Hyde Park page lists 25 minutes to the park’s western edge at Exhibition Road; Green Gate sits further east inside the event site, which adds 8–10 minutes.

Winter Wonderland has no single “main” gate. The organiser publishes four colour-coded entrances. From this hotel, Green Gate is the one to aim for: the official Getting Here page lists its closest stations as Knightsbridge and High Street Kensington, and its nearest zones as the Bavarian Village and Market Square.

The daytime walking route (30–35 minutes)

  1. Leave the hotel at 97 Cromwell Road and walk east two blocks.
  2. Turn left (north) up Exhibition Road, past the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the V&A.
  3. Cross Kensington Gore into Kensington Gardens at Prince’s Gate (about 20 minutes from the door).
  4. Continue east past the Albert Memorial, into Hyde Park, and follow the south paths toward Knightsbridge / the Serpentine. Green Gate is the west side of the Winter Wonderland enclosure.

The Wikidata coordinates for the event (Q27977663) sit at 51.507°N, 0.166°W — the west half of the site, which is why the Kensington approach is shorter than the Park Lane one.

Do not walk back through Kensington Gardens after dusk

Kensington Gardens closes at dusk. Hyde Park stays open until midnight. An evening visit that finishes at 22:00 has to return via Kensington Gore / Knightsbridge / Cromwell Road, or by tube from Knightsbridge to Gloucester Road. The park-path walk above is the daytime route only.

Walking time from Kensington hotels to Winter Wonderland main gate

There is no main gate. Use this table to pick the right colour from Kensington, and to compare the walk against the other three approaches.

Gate Side Closest from Kensington? Walk from Holiday Inn Kensington Forum Official nearest stations Nearest zones
Green Gate West Yes 30–35 min (1.6 miles) Knightsbridge, High Street Kensington Bavarian Village, Market Square
Blue Gate South No 35–40 min Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, Victoria Skater’s Corner, Show Town
Red Gate East No 45–50 min Bond Street, Marble Arch Santa Land, Thrillville
Gold Gate North No 45–50 min Marble Arch, Paddington Arctic Circle, Luminarie Lane

Gate names, stations and zones: Hyde Park Winter Wonderland — Getting Here. Walking times are door-to-gate from 97 Cromwell Road.

How you go Time from the Forum Notes
On foot to Green Gate (daylight) 30–35 min Exhibition Road then Kensington Gardens
On foot after dusk 35–40 min Street route via Knightsbridge; gardens are closed
Tube 15–20 min Gloucester Road (3-min walk) → Knightsbridge on the Piccadilly line (2 stops, ~4 min) → 8 min to Green Gate
Taxi 10 min The hotel’s published Hyde Park taxi time

Gloucester Road station is 270 metres from the hotel lobby — a 3-minute walk. Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner get very busy on Winter Wonderland evenings and are sometimes closed; the organiser tells visitors to use Victoria, Bond Street or Paddington if they want a quieter exit.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland 2026 dates, hours and tickets

Open: Thursday 19 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, every day except Christmas Day. The final day is Family Fun Day.

Hours: the site stays open until 22:00 every evening. Last entry is 21:30. Once you are in, you can stay until close. Most mornings open at 10:00; a handful of dates open at 11:00, 12:00 or 14:00 — the calendar on the Tickets Guide is the source of truth for a specific day.

Entry is by one-hour time slot (10:00 through 20:00). You must arrive inside your booked hour. Published 2026 prices, with booking fees included:

Ticket Listed price (2026) When
Off-Peak £1.00 Green slots; Monday–Thursday throughout November
Standard £5.50 Gold slots; mornings and afternoons on many dates
Peak £8.25 Orange slots; later in the day and most weekends

Source: Hyde Park Winter Wonderland Tickets Guide. Off-Peak copy on that page still describes the green slots as the quiet, free-to-enter windows — a timed ticket is still mandatory. Walk-up tickets are sold on the day but cost more, and popular hours sell out.

Pre-book £25 of rides, attractions, packages or food-and-drink meal deals in one online transaction and the entry ticket is free. Rides and the ice rink are extra on top of entry.

According to Wikipedia, the event drew 14 million visitors in its first ten years and more than 2.5 million in a single season. That volume is why the timed-entry system exists, and why staying 30 minutes’ walk away is the practical advantage over commuting in from Zone 2.

Best hotel near Hyde Park Winter Wonderland for a one-night family visit

For a family doing Winter Wonderland as a single night, the constraint that matters is the walk home at 22:00 with children, not the midday tube map.

Holiday Inn Kensington Forum is the hotel that fits that constraint from Kensington:

  • 30–35 minutes on foot to Green Gate, so you are not changing trains at close with tired children.
  • Family rooms with space for cots; request them when you book. Breakfast is served until 10:30 weekdays and 11:00 weekends, which covers a 10:00 Off-Peak entry the next morning.
  • The Kids Stay and Eat Free offer is the family rate to ask for on a one-night booking.
  • Winter Wonderland does not provide left luggage and will not admit bags larger than A4. If you land at Heathrow on the same day, store the big cases in Kensington first — our luggage storage guide covers the lockers within walking distance of the hotel.

Knightsbridge hotels cut the walk to 10–15 minutes and charge for it. Marble Arch hotels sit on Red Gate and Gold Gate, which dump you onto Park Lane at close. The Forum trades a longer walk for a quieter residential return along Cromwell Road, and for 906 rooms so a one-night Saturday is actually available.

Hotel near Winter Wonderland Hyde Park 2026 with late check-in for evening visits

Check-in at Holiday Inn Kensington Forum is from 15:00. Check-out is 12:00. Early check-in and late check-out are arranged subject to availability — say so when you book, and tell the desk your arrival time. Source: the hotel FAQ.

That timetable matches an evening Winter Wonderland visit:

  1. Book a Peak entry slot between 18:00 and 20:00 (the lights and the ice rink are the reason to go after dark).
  2. Check in from 15:00, leave the suitcases in the room — Winter Wonderland will turn away anything larger than a small rucksack.
  3. Walk to Green Gate in 30–35 minutes, or take the Piccadilly line if it is raining.
  4. Last entry is 21:30; the site closes at 22:00. The walk back is 35–40 minutes on the street route (Kensington Gardens is shut). A taxi from Hyde Park Corner is 10 minutes.
  5. 24-hour room service and The Tavern cover food after 22:00. Winter Wonderland food queues at Peak hours are the slowest part of the night; eating at the hotel on the way out, or when you get back, is the less painful option.

Digital check-in via the IHG app lets you give the hotel an arrival time in advance. Reception is staffed for late arrivals; this is a 27-floor, 906-room hotel, not a boutique with a night bell.

Book the Forum for the nights you hold Winter Wonderland tickets, then add the entry slot on the official ticket calendar.

What to know before you leave the lobby

  • Tickets on your phone. Stewards will not fiddle with your inbox in the queue. Download them, or use the official app, before you set off.
  • Bags: A4 or smaller. 100% bag searches at every gate. Suitcases, scooters and bikes are refused. No left luggage on site; the closest facility they name is Victoria Station — which is why hotel storage is the sane plan.
  • No outside food or drink, except baby food, medical food, sealed water and empty reusable bottles.
  • Dogs are allowed; other animals are not. Fancy dress is on the prohibited list.
  • Step-free: the organiser points wheelchair users and buggies at Green Park or Bond Street, which have lifts. Gloucester Road to Knightsbridge is not the step-free path.
  • The event is ticketed. Hyde Park itself is free and open 05:00–00:00; Winter Wonderland is a fenced, paid enclosure inside it.
